Wells Mountain Initiative is a non-profit organisation dedicated to creating social change through education and community building. Fields Covered

Scholarships are available to students from developing countries and support studies in all fields of study. These scholarships are intended for those pursuing their first qualification at the Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree level. The funding is designed to provide financial assistance throughout the entire duration of the undergraduate programme, ensuring continued support for recipients as they progress in their studies.

Scholarship Coverage

Applicants should have some financial resources for their education but lack sufficient funds to attend or continue university without additional support. The WMI scholarship provides partial funding and does not always cover the full cost of tuition and related educational expenses. It is not intended to be a full scholarship.

Financial assistance primarily covers:  

- Tuition and fees  
- Books and academic materials/supplies  
- Accommodation and meals  
- Transportation  

Tips for Becoming a Competitive Applicant  

To strengthen their application, candidates should consider the following recommendations:  

- Maintain a detailed record of all service activities, including:  

- Dates of participation

- Supporting photographs (if available)  

- Gather essential academic documents:  

- Secondary school transcript  

- National exam results  

- Grading keys to ensure accurate interpretation of results  

- Obtain two letters of recommendation:  

- Must be written on official stationery  

- Should be from individuals who can professionally or personally attest to the candidate’s qualifications and suitability for the scholarship  

- Ensure all required documents are translated into English

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the WMI Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Age: 35 years or younger as of August 1, 2025.

-Academic Status: Completed secondary education with above-average to excellent grades or in the final year of secondary education.

- Enrollment: Applying to or currently enrolled in a university for their first undergraduate degree.

- Study Location: Planning to study in their home country or another developing country.

- Post-Graduation Plans: Intend to live and work in their home country after graduation.

- Community Service: Demonstrated history of volunteerism and a commitment to serving their community during their studies.

- Financial Need: Some funding available for education but require additional assistance to continue or commence university studies.

Applicants planning to study in the United States, Canada, Australia, the UK, or Western Europe are not eligible for this scholarship. Additionally, family members of WMI staff and WMI scholars are ineligible to apply.

Application Steps:

2. Create an Account: If applying through the Kaleidoscope platform, create an account to begin the application process.

3. Complete the Application Form: Fill out all required fields accurately and thoroughly.

4. Upload Required Documents: Ensure all necessary documents are uploaded in the specified formats.

5. Review and Submit: Carefully review the entire application for completeness and accuracy before submitting.

Documentation Required

Applicants must submit the following documents:

- Personal Statement: A personal statement detailing the applicant's background, educational goals, and how the scholarship will assist in achieving these goals.

- Essay: An essay discussing the applicant's involvement in community service, leadership experiences, and future aspirations.

- Secondary School Transcript: Official transcripts showing academic performance in secondary education.

- National Exam Results: Certified copies of national examination results, if applicable.

- Two Letters of Recommendation: Letters from individuals who can attest to the applicant's academic abilities, character, and commitment to community service.

- Proof of University Enrollment or Admission: If already enrolled, provide proof of enrollment; if not yet enrolled, provide evidence of application or admission.

- Passport-sized Photo: A recent photograph of the applicant.

All documents must be translated into English if they are in another language. Applicants are advised to keep copies of all submitted documents for their records. 

Closing Date

The application deadline for the 2025 WMI Scholars Program is March 1, 2025. Applications must be received by this date to be considered for the upcoming academic year. Selected scholars will be notified via email on August 1, 2025. Their names will also be published on the WMI website homepage and the WMI Facebook page. Applicants who are not selected will be notified after August 1.
