About Lonmin

Lonmin is a producer and exporter of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), which include Gold, Copper Nickel, Chrome, Cobalt, and other by-products. These metals are essential for many industries, including engineering, investment, trading, and ornamental. South African government granted the company a New Order Mining Licence and 181 million troy-ounces and 32 million ounces of resources. Lonmin operates in Marikana, Pandora and Akani which account for 95% of its production. Lonmin Mining offers many bursaries. These bursaries are awarded to deserving, talented candidates who wish to pursue a career in mining or related fields. This bursary scheme was created to help in the development and support of the community. It also helps those who have the talent and desire to learn.

Fields the bursary covers

Lonmin Bursary was established to help students obtain mining/mining-related university qualifications and thus increase their skills in the mining sector.

The bursary will be given to students in the following areas:

  • 1) Analytical Chemistry
  • 2) Metallurgy
  • 3) Chemical Engineering
  • 4) Chemistry: BSc/ BEng
  • 5) Information Technology
  • 6) Electrical Engineering
  • 7) Medicine
  • 8) Pharmacy
  • 9) Occupational Therapy
  • 10) Surveying Mines
  • 11) Mining engineering
  • 12) Geology
  • 13) Instrumentation

What does this bursary cover?

  • 1) Tuition fees at universities
  • 2) The registration fees for the candidate
  • 3) Any required exam
  • 4) Housing fees at the University
  • 5) Fees for Resident Meals
  • 6) Book fees
  • 7) An allowance will be paid to candidates as well.
  • 8) Assistance from a tutor
  • 9) In your 2nd year of study, a computer

Who can apply?

Before applying, applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements. Please note that if you fail to meet all requirements, your application is likely to not be considered.

  1. ·         South African citizen
  2. ·         Completed Matric
  3. ·         Full-time study in one of these fields
  4. ·         Study at a recognized University or a University of Technology in South Africa
  5. ·         Attained a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and Science in Matric
  6. ·         Current studies: Attained a minimum of 60% overall average

 How to Apply

New User Application

1. Scroll down to the job details section and select the position that you want to apply for. Click on "Submit Application". Lonmin application

2. Click on "Register". Register, create your password and complete the application process.

3. If you do not meet the minimum requirements for the job, your application will be automatically rejected by the office recruitment system. You must also upload all relevant documents. All word documents must be converted to PDF documents not exceeding five megabytes beforehand

4. You are required to include the following attachments:

* A MS Word version of your CV

* A proof of acceptance to a university

* The most recent academic results

* A copy of your ID

* Documentation proving your origin (e.g., utility bill or letter from Ward Councillor). A utility bill or electricity bill or a letter from your Ward councillor are acceptable forms of proof.

5. Fill out the screening questionnaire. Also, it is imperative that you answer the questionnaire, with sheer honesty.

6. Click on "Submit an application". To confirm receipt of your application, you will receive an automatic response via email or SMS.

7. The recruitment system, Human Resources (HR), and the Hiring Manager will screen your application. Click here to apply (apply)

SELECTION SYSTEM

Each year, students will need to participate in 8 weeks of vacation work at Lonmin to get practical experience.

Shortlisted candidates will soon be contacted by Lonmin after the deadline. Please consider your application unsuccessful if you do not receive feedback from Lonmin within the 30 days following the deadline for applications.

Closing Date for this bursary

Applications usually close at the end of March annually. Shortlisted candidates will then be contacted by July. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and then the selection process will begin. Candidates who make it through the selection process will be notified. If you don't hear back from the company within 48 hours, your application was likely rejected.
