Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu Limited (popularly known as “Deloitte”) was established in the United Kingdom in the year 1845. The UK-incorporated company is the biggest professional services network across the globe (according to their number of professionals and revenue) is among the worlds “Big Four” accounting firms. If you are studying in the Chartered Accountancy or BCom Accounting field, this could be a great opportunity for you. Deloitte is one of the largest companies in the globe when it comes to financial consulting, auditing, financial advice and providing risk management. It operates in approximately 150 countries across the world. Deloitte has 4 offices in South Africa, which are located in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg (Head office). 

Every year, Deloitte awards bursaries to  hardworking deserving students who are pursuing or are going to pursue a Chartered Accountancy qualification, BCom accounting students are eligible to receive bursaries. Students who wish to become chartered accountants will be eligible for the Deloitte Bursary.

Who can apply?

Like many other bursaries, you will need to demonstrate excellent academic strength to be considered for this bursary. Each year Deloitte selects the top students to award their bursary to. If you are selected, and after you have finished your degree or qualification, you will be added to their 3-year traineeship program in which you will get a chance to practice what you have learned and get the necessary experience. To apply for the Deloitte Bursary, you must be pursuing a chartered accounting degree that is accredited by SAICA. You can choose to do this as an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

What are the minimum requirements?

Having all of the below requirements will improve your chances of being selected for their bursary program. Should you fail to comply with the below requirements, your application is likely to get denied.

  • 1) Firstly, you might be a South African or a Namibian citizen
  • 2) You have to have completed your grade 12 year, or you are currently completing it.
  • 3) You must have done mathematics in grade 12, mathematical literacy will not be accepted*.
  • 4) You have to be studying for or plan on studying towards a chartered accounting degree (undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.)
  • 5) You are pursuing your chartered accounting degree at a SAICA-accredited university.
  • 6) If you have completed your first or your second year, your cumulative minimum average is percent.
  • 7) If you have completed your third year of studies, your minimum overall average is at least 65 percent.

What does the bursary cover?

They will cover the following expenses, but they are limited to a maximum amount.

  • 1) Tuition fees
  • 2) Accommodation
  • 3) Learning Material (Textbooks)

You will need to cover any additional costs on your own.

You will need the following items to apply for this bursary:

  • 1) A certified copy of your identity document
  • 2) If you are currently in grade 12, you are required to submit your most recent results
  • 3) If you have successfully completed grade 12, your matriculation certificate must be submitted
  • 4) Latest academic record
  • 5) And lastly, a Motivational letter to convince the organization that you are the perfect candidate for this bursary.
