The Hexagon Trust, established in 1987 and based in Durban, South Africa, is a charitable non-profit organisation dedicated to providing educational opportunities to economically disadvantaged students. Over the years, the Trust has awarded bursaries to more than 18,000 students, enabling them to pursue tertiary education and contribute meaningfully to their communities. 

Fields Covered

For the 2025 academic year, the Hexagon Trust is offering bursaries to students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the following fields:

- Commerce

- Engineering

- Science

These fields have been identified as critical areas where skilled professionals are in high demand within South Africa. 

Bursary Coverage

The bursary provides comprehensive financial support, covering:

- Registration Fees: Costs associated with enrolling at the tertiary institution.

- Tuition Fees: Full coverage of the academic fees for the duration of the undergraduate programme.

- Textbook Allowance: A stipend allocated for the purchase of necessary textbooks and academic materials.

This financial assistance ensures that recipients can focus on their studies without the burden of financial constraints. 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the bursary:

- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.

- Age: 18 years or older.

- Academic Status: Currently in Matric or have completed Matric.

Field of Study: Intending to pursue an undergraduate qualification in Commerce, Engineering, or Science.

- Year of Study: Entering the first year of study in 2025.

- University Admission: Accepted and registered at one of the recognised public universities in South Africa (a comprehensive list is provided below).

- Academic Performance: Achieved a minimum overall average of a “C” symbol.

- Financial Need: Demonstrable financial need.

- Community Commitment: A commitment to contributing to community development.

Application Process

To apply for the Hexagon Trust Bursary, follow these steps:

1. Online Application: Applications must be submitted online through the Hexagon Trust Student Portal. Applicants need to register an account, log in, and complete the application form.Click here to apply. 

2. Supporting Documents: Prepare and upload certified copies of the following documents:

- Identification Document: Certified copy of your South African ID.

- Photograph: A recent passport-sized photograph.

- Academic Results:

- If currently in Matric: Certified copy of your June exam results.

- If Matric is completed: Certified copy of your final results.

- University Acceptance Letter: Official letter from the tertiary institution confirming your acceptance.

- Proof of Household Income:

- If parents/guardians are employed: Recent payslips.

- If unemployed: Sworn affidavit confirming unemployment status.

- Motivational Letter: A personal statement outlining your background, future plans, and commitment to your community.

- Recommendation Letter: A letter from your school principal endorsing your application.

Ensure all documents are certified and submitted in acceptable formats (jpg, jpeg, png, doc, docx, pdf, rtf) with each file not exceeding 2MB. 

3. Application Status: After submission, monitor your application status through the student portal. Statuses include:

- Draft: Application is incomplete and not yet submitted.

- Pending: Application submitted and awaiting processing.

- In Review: Application is under evaluation.

- Shortlisted: Application has passed initial review; you may be invited for an interview.

- Unsuccessful: Application did not meet the selection criteria.

- Successful: Application approved; you have been awarded the bursary.

Closing Date

The application deadline for the Hexagon Trust Bursary is 31 December 2024. Late applications will not be considered, so it is imperative to submit all required materials before this date.
