What the Bursary Covers
The LGSETA Bursary aims to provide comprehensive financial support to full-time students enrolled at institutions recognised by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The bursary is intended for students pursuing qualifications aligned with Sector Priority Occupations and Interventions (SPOI).
The LGSETA Bursary covers various expenses, including tuition fees, study materials, prescribed textbooks, food, accommodation, and other allowances. The level of financial assistance provided depends on the student’s level of study.
- TVET College students: Maximum bursary of R100,000 per year.
- University of Technology students: Maximum bursary of R70,000 per year.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be South African citizens or hold permanent residency status.
- Only full-time students will be considered for funding.
- Current students at universities, universities of technology, or TVET colleges (NATED programmes) are eligible, as well as Grade 12 learners who have been accepted into higher education institutions.
- Preference will be given to studies related to priority occupations and areas that support the local government sector's service delivery and the five broad focus areas of LGSETA.
- Applicants must be enrolled or have provisional acceptance for a course or qualification that aligns with the local government sector.
