About
the Bursary Provider
Implats, or Impala Platinum
Holdings Limited, is a globally renowned producer of platinum group metals
(PGMs), which include platinum, palladium, rhodium, and other precious metals.
These metals are critical for various industrial applications, including
automotive catalytic converters, electronics, and jewellery. Founded in 1966,
Implats has grown to become one of the largest and most influential players in
the PGM industry. The company's roots can be traced back to its first mining
operations on the Impala lease area near Rustenburg, South Africa. Over the
decades, Implats has expanded its footprint, acquiring additional mining
operations and increasing its production capacity. Today, Implats operates
several mines and processing facilities in South Africa and Zimbabwe, including
the Impala, Marula, and Two Rivers mines in South Africa, and the Zimplats and
Mimosa mines in Zimbabwe.
