The firm's origins can be traced to Samuel Lowell Price, who founded an accountancy practice in London in 1849. In 1865, Price partnered with Edwin Waterhouse to form Price, Waterhouse & Co., which would later become one of the "Big Four" accounting firms. Meanwhile, in 1854, William Cooper founded an accountancy firm in London, which eventually merged with Lybrand, Ross Bros & Montgomery in 1957 to form Coopers & Lybrand.
