The ACT Nyoloha Scholarship

Fields of Study Covered by the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme:

Applicants will need to include the following documents
with their application:
1. Previous semester/last academic results: This is

5. Either 1 video (for Performing Arts) OR 4 portfolio
pictures (for Visual Arts):

applicant's talent, stage presence, and potential for growth in the performing
arts.
- For Visual
Arts: Instead of a video, applicants are asked to submit a portfolio of
pictures showcasing their artistic works. This could include drawings,
paintings, sculptures, or any other visual art forms. The portfolio helps
evaluators gauge the applicant's artistic abilities, creativity, and style.
These documents collectively provide a comprehensive
overview of the applicant's academic background, identity, consent, and talents
or skills relevant to the arts program they are applying for. They enable the
evaluators to make informed decisions regarding the applicant's suitability for
admission.
Eligibility Requirements for the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship:
- Must be a South Africa Citizen
- Be aged between 17 and 25.
- Either be in Grade 12 presently or possess a university
exemption.
- Require financial aid to pursue a performing or visual
arts qualification at a South African tertiary/accredited institution,
beginning studies in 2025.
- Not be currently enrolled in a tertiary/accredited
institution for the 2024 academic year.
- Lack a previous tertiary qualification in an arts/creative
field from a South African institution.
- Not be recognized as a professional artist, meaning they
have not undergone specialized training or hold full-time employment in an
artistic discipline.
- Not have participated as a finalist or recipient of the
2023 ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme.
- Be willing and able to commit to the full six-month d
uration of the program.
How to Apply for the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship:
The application process for the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship is designed to be accessible and transparent. Prospective candidates should follow these steps:
1. Visit the official website of the Arts & Culture
Trust (ACT) to access the scholarship application portal.
2. Complete the online application form, providing accurate
personal and academic information.
For those interested in the performing arts (singing, dance,
and acting), kindly provide a 2-minute video showcasing your chosen discipline:
(a) Singing:
Select a song across any genre that highlights your vocal
prowess, technique, and overall talent. You may utilize a backtrack or musical
accompaniment.
(b) Dance:
Choreograph a dance or movement piece that demonstrates your
versatility and skill.
(c) Theatre/Acting:
Present a monologue from Addendum 2 that effectively
exhibits your acting range and proficiency. Please refrain from using personal
material.
Ensure your video is recorded in a well-lit room with a plain background, in landscape/horizontal mode, and free from background noise or echo. Avoid auditioning in areas with disruptive noise, such as bathrooms. Parents, legal guardians, or teachers should not participate in the audition video. Utilize minimal props, such as a table and chair, or musical instruments for singing auditions.
For those applying in the digital/visual arts discipline, please submit:
(a) Four distinct and original artworks:
1x portrait
1x landscape
2x original pieces
(b) Additionally, include:
- A concise biography of 70 to 100 words.
- An artist statement of 70 to 100 words, elucidating the inspiration and intent behind your artworks' creation, in the appropriate format and style.
Closing Date for the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship:

Aspiring applicants should mark their calendars and ensure
timely submission of their scholarship applications. The closing date for the
ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme is announced in advance on the ACT website

Participants who succeed in the program will engage in workshops every two weeks from June 8th to August 17th, 2024. The finals for scholarships will take place in Johannesburg, Gauteng, from September 23rd to 27th, 2024.
