Minimum Admission Requirements
Admission criteria for Bachelor's
and Diploma programs at the University are outlined as follows:
For Bachelor's Degree Admission:
Prospective students must hold a
National Senior Certificate (NSC) certified by Umalusi, with a minimum
achievement rating of 4 (indicating Adequate achievement, 50-59%) or higher in
four subjects. These subjects must be selected from the University's designated
subject list, which includes Accounting, Agricultural Sciences, Business
Studies, Dramatic Arts, Economics, Engineering Graphics and Design, Geography,
History, Consumer Studies, Information Technology, Languages (one language of
learning and teaching at a higher education institution and two other
recognized language subjects), Life Sciences, Mathematics, Mathematical
Literacy, Music, Physical Sciences, Religion Studies, and Visual Arts.
For Diploma Admission:
Applicants must possess a
National Senior Certificate certified by Umalusi, with an achievement rating of
3 (moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in four recognized NSC 20-credit
subjects.
Application Process
The application period for the academic year 2025 commences on April 2, 2024, and concludes on September 30, 2024. However, specific programs have earlier deadlines. Applications for the Bachelor of Dentistry and Oral Health, as well as postgraduate degrees offered by the School of Government, must be submitted by August 31, 2024. For BA Honours in Sport Recreation and Exercise Science, BA Honours in Biokinetics, and BSc Honours in Biokinetics, the application deadline is July 31, 2024. It is important to note that the Department of Sport, Recreation, and Exercise Science has a departmental selection process for Postgraduate Applications.
Applications for the Department of Psychology have varying closing dates:
- For MPsych programs, the
deadline is May 10, 2024.
- For MResearch, Masters by
Thesis, and PhD programs, the deadline is August 31, 2024.
- For Honours programs,
applications must be submitted by September 30, 2024.
