services groups, offering a range of banking and wealth management services to
individuals, businesses, and institutions. Founded in 1991 through the merger
of several South African banks, ABSA has a rich history that dates back over a
century. The bank's origins can be traced to the early 20th century when
various regional banks were established across South Africa. Over the years,
ABSA has expanded its footprint both domestically and internationally,
solidifying its position as a leading financial institution on the African
continent. Today, ABSA is known for its innovative banking solutions,
commitment to customer service, and contributions to the economic development
of South Africa and beyond.
About The ABSA CIMA Trainee Accountant Programme
In the Absa Chartered Institute
of Management Accountants (CIMA) Trainee Accountant Programme, selected
participants are guided on a journey to acquire the requisite experience and
competencies for Chartered Accountant status within a three-year timeframe.
Rotating through different departments of the bank every six months, trainees
gain ample exposure and training opportunities. Absa places paramount
importance on the professional and personal development of its trainees,
embedding technical and professional training into their daily routines. Their
growth is nurtured through coaching, mentoring, participation in conferences,
and integration into the broader Absa Graduate Program (Gen A), enriching their
learning journey.
Supported wholeheartedly by the
Executive Committee (Exco), trainees are honoured and celebrated for their
achievements. Quarterly engagement sessions, graciously hosted by Exco members,
provide a platform for trainees to network with bank leadership. The programme
generously covers exam fees and offers tailored study leave benefits. Upon
completing the three-year practical experience and CIMA exams, trainees emerge
as well-rounded Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA), ready to embark
on a promising career trajectory.
