About The AIMS Google DeepMind Scholarship South Africa

The AIMS Google DeepMind Scholarship South Africa 2024 is a fully funded opportunity designed to empower individuals with a passion for AI and ML. Through this program, scholars will embark on a journey of academic excellence, professional development, and impactful research, guided by leading experts in the field.

Eligibility and Requirements:

- Reside in Africa during the application period.

- Hold citizenship from any African country.

- Have earned a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honour’s year by August 2024 (or December 2024)

- Not have been awarded a previous scholarship to study at an AIMS centre.

- Your undergraduate degree may be in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or any field with a significant computational and mathematical focus.

-Completion of either a four-year undergraduate program or a three-year program followed by an additional honours year is necessary for enrolment as a Master’s degree candidate in South Africa.

-The residency stipulation does not pertain to students displaced by conflict.

Fields Covered:

AIMS extends an invitation to students to apply for their scholarship program for the academic year 2024/2025. This program is open to students from across Africa who possess an interest in mathematics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning and offers them the opportunity to join the September 2024 group, comprising one of the 40 Google DeepMind Scholars.

The scholarship program is a fully residential one-year taught master's program with a research component. The curriculum explores how AI is utilized to understand the world and propel progress within the scientific field.  

How to Apply:

-Please complete your registration at AIMS website

- Submit your CV

- A motivation letter approximately 500 words in length

- Academic transcripts

- Written mathematics questions (accessible on the application site)

- Coding problem (available on the application site)

- The online application comprises twelve brief mathematics questions and one coding problem. Although not structured as an exam, these questions provide the selection panel with valuable insight into candidates' problem-solving methods.

- It's important to note that a complete application cannot be rushed at the last minute. Hence, prospective DeepMind Scholars at AIMS South Africa are urged to commence the application process early.

-The final stage of the selection process entails short online interviews scheduled for April 2024.
