Old Mutual is looking for Junior ESG analyst in Cape Town
A vacancy has arisen for a Junior ESG Analyst within the
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) team within Old Mutual Investment
Group.
The primary focus of the role is to contribute to the ESG
research function at Old Mutual Investment Group.
The role will report to the Head of Responsible Investment
and will be located within the Old Mutual Investment Group’s Responsible
Investment team (RI).
The incumbent will provide support to the Head of Governance
and Engagement and the ESG Analysts/Data specialist.
The position requires an individual who has the knowledge
and passion for sustainability issues as well as investment processes across
different asset classes. The job is suited to a candidate who is driven to
deliver cutting edge research, has excellent written and Excel skills, has
strong communication and presenting skills and an ability to influence and
“sell” ideas.

Primary Functions
ESG Research and
Analysis
-Undertake independent research and analysis of company ESG
practises and thematic ESG issues
-Support the development of tools for the effective
integration of ESG analysis into our stock selection and valuations processes
across asset classes
-Support on the development of material to be used for
engagement with Old Mutual Investment Group’s boutiques and external
stakeholder as required (this may include media, clients and consultants)
-Work in collaboration with the head of Governance and
Engagement to prepare materials for company level engagements
-Contribute to the development of Old Mutual Investment
Group’s thought leadership on ESG related issues
-Support with the update and publication of RI policies and
practise across the business
RI Project Management
-Coordination RI team meetings,
Taking minutes
Driving implementation of follow up actions
-Support internal and External Communication on RI related
issues
-Support with RI reporting as required in respect oif CRISA
and UNPRI
-Support with the RI aspects of the Old Mutual Emerging
Markets Responsible Business program;
Basic Job Requirements:
-Tertiary qualification, ideally and Honours or MSc with a
business, finance, investments or
environmental focus
- Recent graduates will be considered however any working
experience relating to investment
management, ESG advisory services or corporate
sustainability will be an advantage
- Understanding of responsible Investment (UN PRI, CRISA,
Reg 28) and sustainability issues
- Ability to undertake proprietary ESG research and analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with project management
